Derwent Cliffs & Bicentennial Track

PUFF-O-METRE

Level 1 out of 5 - Easy

OVERVIEW

This is a trail that allows you to see some of the best parts of New Norfolk while avoiding traffic for most of the walk. It's located in New Norfolk which is a town 35km North-West of Hobart.

The trail can be started and finished at any point as it's a loop around most of the town and parklands. We started our walk from the caravan park on the River Derwent as that's where we were staying for the weekend. From there, you head through the town to take in the history and its older buildings. Once you meet the Lachlan River, the trail follows this natural pathway until it meets the River Derwent. While walking along the Lachlan River section, you'll enjoy an off lead dog park, a community veggie garden and a large parkland that has kids entertainment such as a bike park. The final leg of the trail has you following the River Derwent back to the caravan park. This section has the highest level of elevation change however it's worth it as you find yourself 60m above the river with a stunning view of it and the surrounding rock formations.

The trail is pet friendly while also being wheelchair/pram friendly. There are sections that are paved or concrete paths while others are hardened gravel. There is one staircase in the trail which a photo has been included that you'll need to go down however if this isn't desired then keep following the trail to the left of the staircase to take a longer but wheelchair/pram friendly alternative.
