River's Edge Wilderness Camping

River's Edge Wilderness Camping is located on the banks of the Russell River in Lonnavale in the Huon Valley, approximately 61km South-West of Hobart.

River's Edge offers powered and unpowered sites for campers and caravanners in a peaceful, bushy setting.

River's Edge can be accessed by road via Ranelagh or Glen Huon. To minimise the amount of time spent on unsealed road, we recommend you travel via Glen Huon (Glen Huon Road).

River's Edge is one of our favourite camping locations. The shrubs and trees create natural privacy screens so it doesn't feel like you're in a caravan park.

The sites are huge and many of the sites are double and triple sites, which is great for groups that want to holiday together.

Fire pots are located on the sites.

Best of all, River's Edge is pet friendly.

There are even off-leash exercise areas for dogs.

River's Edge is in a secluded location approximately 27km from the nearest major township Huonville. As there aren't any shops or eateries nearby, a food truck is often located onsite at select times on weekends and peak holiday periods such as Christmas.

When we stayed at River's Edge, we woke to glorious coffees and milkshakes in the morning and one evening for dinner we had a perfectly cooked seafood basket with some potato cakes and dim sims.

The main amenities block is located near the powered sites. The flushing toilets and showers are clean and well-maintained.

There are composting toilets located throughout the rest of park that service the unpowered sites.

River's Edges also has a rustic camp kitchen and an open lawn area which is perfect for a picnic. During peak holiday periods such as Christmas, live music acts perform in this area.

The mobile reception by the river isn't very strong (and non-existent for some carriers), so River's Edge has installed a mobile phone booster by the road near the entrance to the park.

What a spot to sit back and catch up on your calls!
