Evercreech Forest Reserve Camping
This magical and private camping area is accessed by travelling to Mathinna and then driving along Mathinna Plains Road where you should turn onto Claytons Road (which turns into McKenzies Road). Then take Robinsons Road and Egans Road until you reach Evercreech Forest Reserve. The roads are well signed.
The road is unsealed from Claytons Road onwards (approximately 12km), and although the road is in fairly good condition, it can be quite corrugated (particularly after heavy rainfall) so you will need to decide whether it is appropriate for your vehicle to travel along this road. Higher clearance vehicles and four wheel drives should have no issues travelling along these roads.
The campsite itself is a grassy picnic area with barbeques, picnic tables, an undercover area with wood fireplace and very basic drop toilets. It is best suited to tent and swag camping as the grass area has been cordoned off by barriers, which prevents vehicles from driving onto the grass.
People travelling with caravans and camper trailers can park in the three small parking areas. Depending on the setup, allows for about 6 vehicles with caravans.
The stunning tree canopy creates privacy and shelter but Evercreech Forest Reserve should be avoided during periods of strong winds.
Due to its isolated location and unsealed entry road, Evercreech is quiet and uncrowded, which makes it the perfect place to get away and enjoy the sounds and sights of the bush.
The campground/picnic area is nested right next to the Evercreech Rivulet and there are a couple of walks that start and finish at the campground. These walks will be the subject of separate blog reviews.
The best thing about Evercreech Forest Reserve is that it's free and dogs on leads are welcome!
There is no mobile reception at Evercreech Forest Reserve, so make sure you download your maps and other online material prior to your trip. In fact, we found that there is limited mobile reception in the whole area which makes switching off for a weekend all the more enjoyable.
Evercreech Forest Reserve is mossy and magical and well worth a visit if you like secluded, bushy camping locations.
We can't wait to get back there with our pup for another relaxing getaway.
