On The Bay
Although On The Bay is Stewart Bay Lodge's onsite restaurant, anyone is welcome to dine at the restaurant.
The timber and glass building blends into the natural landscape, while providing filtered views of the water and peaceful surrounds.
The restaurant comprises a fairly sizeable dining room, a cosy lounge area in front of the wood fire and a casual outdoor eating area.
The tables are nicely spread out so you don't feel like you're sitting on top of the other diners.
The lounge area is the perfect spot to enjoy a warming cuppa or an aperitif.
For dinner we started with a plate of freshly shucked oysters - whisky, bacon and brie, natural with a slice of lemon and ginger lime gin.
The toppings paired well with the plump oysters. We particularly loved the warm whisky, bacon and brie oysters.
For mains we had fresh Tassie scallops, crumbed, with chips and salad.
The scallops were sensational. Among the best scallops we've ever had. They were plump, juicy and cooked to perfection.
We also enjoyed the buttermilk spiced squid with Mexican slaw and citrus saffron aioli.
The squid was really tender, juicy along with the Mexican slaw/aioli gave the dish a tasty kick.
Although the squid was an entrée, it was still quite generous.
For dessert we indulged in lemon syrup cake with lemon curd, candied lemon, macadamia nuts and thyme shortbread with peach lemon myrtle ice cream.
This dish was light and refreshing, perfect for those who prefer lighter desserts.
We also feasted on the chocolate brownie with salted caramel, chocolate ganache, chocolate hazelnut shard, raspberry dust, berry compote and vanilla ice cream.
This was a truly decadent dish. The brownie was moist and rich.
For breakfast we had the veggie haloumi breakfast which consisted of toasted sourdough, poached eggs, grilled haloumi, fire-roasted capsicum, grilled tomato and sauteed mushrooms.
Each of the ingredients were treated with respect and were really tasty. The poached eggs were runny, as requested, the capsicum had a lovely charred flavour and the mushrooms along with the haloumi added some ''meatiness'' to the dish.
We also had runny poached eggs with free range bacon, toasted sourdough and haloumi.
This was another satisfying and tasty meal. Each of the ingredients were cooked really well and once again, the poached eggs were lovely and runny.
We also requested a serving of pancakes, which is on the kids menu, but they made it into an adult-sized meal which was accompanied by ice cream, berry compote, fresh strawberries, syrup, macadamia nuts and thyme shortbread crumbs.
The pancakes were light and fluffy while the macadamia and shortbread crumbs added texture to the dish.
On The Bay is a casually elegant restaurant that you must visit when you're next in Port Arthur.
