Blue Tier Giant Tree Walk

PUFF-O-METRE

Overview

While getting to the start of the Giant Trees walk isn't difficult, it should be noted that you shouldn't attempt this in a standard or lower clearance vehicle. It's a gravel road/track for the last few kms and the last 1500m requires a vehicle with reasonable ground clearance due to the washouts and ruts along the track. To get there, take the Tasman Highway out of St Helens and follow it past Pyengana until you turn down Lottah Road on the right hand side. Follow Lottah Road for 1.1km and take the right hand road opposite a weigh bridge. This track doesn't have a name that we could see however it's signposted as the way to the Giant Trees Walk. Follow this track for 1500m till you get to the carpark and the start of the walk.

The walk itself is fairly easy going and it zig zags you down any areas that might be considered steep. The trail is a mixture of gravel, dirt, mud and leaf clutter. It's wide and easy going but not quite smooth enough to take an off-road pram on it comfortably.

The track branches off to take you on a loop through the bush while making sure you see three of the biggest trees in the area without needing to backtrack too much. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how big even the "average" trees are along this trail.
