The Moorings at Lady Franklin

The Moorings at Lady Franklin is a welcoming pub located in Franklin, approximately 45km south of Hobart.

The Moorings serves traditional and hearty pub meals that are good value for money.

All of the usual suspects can be found on the menu - steaks, burgers, beer battered fish, salt and pepper calamari, crumbed scallops or prawns, seafood chowder, a variety of beef and chicken schnitzels and parmigianas and more!

There are also a number of vegan dishes available, as well as lighter meal options including salads, wraps and soup.

Most of the meals are served with either fries or sidewinders and/or salad. For those of you who don't know what sidewinders are, they are the lovechild of curly fries and wedges - thick, curly, seasoned potato-ey goodness that is crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on this inside.

The Moorings helpfully categorises the menu based on the size of the meal with headings such as 'entrees', 'hungry', 'starving' and 'half serves'. The schnitzels and parmigianas are appropriately placed under the 'starving' category. They are massive and thick but still really succulent. They're some of the best schnitzels and parmigianas we've eaten.

Under the category of 'hungry' is the Franklin beef burger which is an impressive tower of beef, caramelised onion, bacon, lettuce, tomato, oozing cheese, battered onion rings, relish and aioli in a hamburger bun and served with lots of fries.

The beer battered fish and crumbed prawn dishes are both really tasty - the crispy, golden outer shell of the seafood is delightfully crunchy, while inside the shell, the fish and prawns are still plump.

The steaks are juicy and tender. They use good quality beef and cook them to your liking. Every time we have dined at The Moorings, the steaks have been perfectly cooked to medium-rare.

If you happen to have room for dessert, there are some simple, yet nostalgic sweet dishes to finish off your meal, including banana split, sticky date pudding, hot fudge sundae and chocolate brownie.
