Geilston Bay to Tranmere Track

PUFF-O-METRE

Overview

This track has to be one of the best in Southern Tasmania to be able to follow the coastline without needing to mingle with traffic much at all. There are a couple of short sections that have you crossing roads as you travel along the footpaths rather than being on a dedicated bike path but they aren't common or for very long.

This track allows you to start at any point, travel along it as long as you want and get off at any stage. For the purposes of capturing all the sections, we started at Geilston Bay on our bikes and took it all the way to its end at Tranmere. We then turned around and rode it all the way back to Geilston Bay. In doing so, we travelled through Geilston Bay, Lindisfarne, Bellerive, Rosny Park, Howrah and Tranmere.

The track is a combination of tarmac, concrete, gravel and sand. While this does sound challenging, there aren't many elevation changes so it makes for a relaxed exploration. We decided to ride it however you could just as easily hike it or scooter it, we even saw a man on an electric unicycle.

There are plenty of places to stop for a rest or enjoy a meal or relieve yourself should the call of nature occur. It has you travelling through urban locations as well as bush and coastal views. It's a spectacular way to see some of the more populated coastal areas near Hobart while being able to look across the water to enjoy seeing Hobart, Mt Wellington and other suburbs for a different perspective.
