Red Velvet Lounge

Red Velvet Lounge is a restaurant / café located in Cygnet, approximately 54km south of Hobart.

RVL, as the locals refer to it, serves breakfast, lunch, sweets and coffee and on Fridays, also serves dinner and wood fired pizza.

Indoor and outdoor seating is available and dogs are welcome to sit with their owners in the outdoor area. 

The building itself is charming and grand.

 

The interior has a magnificent high ceiling which makes the restaurant wonderfully open and airy. 

With lounge, table and booth seating available inside (as well as a wood fire), you'll have no trouble finding the perfect spot to enjoy your meal.

The interior decoration even extends to the bathrooms! 

It's easy to see why this gem is adored by locals. The food is nourishing, wholesome and satisfying, yet on trend. Many of the dishes are (or can be) suitable for vegans and vegetarians and RVL proudly celebrates Huon Valley and Tasmanian produce.

The pumpkin and ricotta pancakes with maple syrup, candied pecans and baked ricotta for breakfast were glorious - light and fluffy, yet moist at the same time - the pumpkin gave the hotcakes a really pleasant smooth texture and the pecans added contrasting crunch.

 The runny poached eggs on toast with bacon and smoked salmon did not disappoint. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked and you could taste the quality of the bacon and smoked salmon.

The lunch dishes were amazing. The Vintage Beef Co sirloin and grilled lamb dishes were chargrilled to blushing pink perfection.

The salad that accompanied the sirloin was simple, fresh and crispy.

The lamb was served with babaganoush, freekeh, cucumber and pomegranate and this combination was outstanding - a fresh flavour explosion that complemented the lamb.

The rigatoni with pork and fennel sausage, tomato, borlotti beans and smoked parmesan was warming and flavoursome without being too heavy.

RVL also has a number of cakes, slices and desserts to choose from. 

The treacle tart, pear pecan and whisky tart, raspberry cheesecake and quince jelly trifle were light, full of flavour and not too sweet.

  Drift Away Organic Shack is a peaceful retreat for two located in Police Point, approximately 73km south of Hobart. Ideal for a couple, this cute studio has stunning views of the Huon River.  Crescent Bay, Mount Brown and Remarkable Cave PUFF-O-METRE   THEN OVERVIEW This is a beautiful day walk that follows some rugged coast line, stunning views and ends at a gorgeous beach with huge dunes. It starts at a large carpark, but it needs to be as this area is a very popular location. The carpark has a lovely viewing platform for some of the coastal cliffs. It also has shelter and public toilets available. Before setting off towards Crescent Bay, it's worth the ten minute delay to head down the staircase to enjoy the view at the Remarkable Cave. It's a bit like a horizontal blowhole however it's far more open therefore you don't get the big burst of water upwards. With that done, it's time to head along the other track towards Crescent Bay. This track is a bit up and down however the elevation doesn't change more than 20m so at no stage does it feel overwhelming.
