Conservatory Café in Cygnet Old Bank
Conservatory Café in Cygnet Old Bank is a beautiful, country-style café located in Cygnet, approximately 54km south of Hobart.
The café offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and as the name suggests, the indoor seating and main serving area is located in a pretty, sun-filled conservatory.
The outdoor seating area is pet friendly and has a wonderful relaxed feel to it. The garden is green and lush and even has a small apple orchard out the back.
The menu is an 'all-day' menu featuring breakfast, brunch and lunch items as well as cakes and slices. High tea is also available on Saturday afternoons.
The food is made from locally grown Huon Valley produce and all of the meals are generous, beautifully plated and flavoursome.
The chef's breakfast was a delightful combination of fried eggs, bacon, sausage, tomato, beans, mushrooms and crispy sourdough toast.
The 'googie on spuds' consisted of fried free range egg atop roast potatoes and relish. The flavour that was packed into this dish by way of herbs and spices was truly unexpected and absolutely incredible. We added Cygnet bacon to this dish, which gave it a lovely salty touch.
The golden delicious pancake was really enjoyable - the trio of pikelet-sized pancakes were topped with whipped ricotta and surrounded by beautifully stewed apple, fresh strawberries and walnut praline. The delicate caramel sauce drizzle brought the whole dish together. We also added Cygnet bacon for a salty hit.
The Rueben sandwich was an absolute joy to eat. This generously-portioned and vibrantly-coloured dish was another pleasant surprise. The corned beef was slow-cooked and 'pulled' rather than sliced which was really tasty. The melted swiss cheese oozed over the corned beef and the kraut added acidity. The beautifully-dressed green salad added freshness and the sweet potato crisps were amazingly light and crunchy.
Make sure you try the drink specials - they were refreshing and tasty.
If you haven't already experienced the tasty meals at the Old Bank, be sure to stop by and enjoy a light meal. We loved it and we think you will too.
