Snug Tavern

Snug Tavern is located in the coastal township of Snug, approximately 24km south of Hobart.

Aesthetically speaking, this tavern is fairly modest, and while the food it serves is simple pub fare, it is hearty and satisfying.

The garlic pizza appetiser was deliciously garlicky and cheesy, and although the portion seemed on the smaller side, it was actually the perfect size and prevented us from filling up prematurely.

The garlic prawns with rice and salad was a lovely light meal which can be enjoyed as an entrée or main. We chose the main size. The sauce was lovely and creamy and had just the right amount of garlic without being too overpowering. The well-dressed salad provided a fresh element to the dish.

The chicken schnitzel was succulent and coated in crunchy panko goodness.

We topped it with a surf and turf sauce, which consisted of salt and pepper calamari and a creamy, garlic sauce with prawns and scallops

The chargrilled 'surf and turf' steak was a delight to eat. It was a fantastic quality, thick-cut scotch fillet steak topped with salt and pepper calamari and a creamy garlic sauce with prawns and scallops.

The scotch fillet steak was up there with one of the best steaks we've eaten - due, in part, to its thick cut. It was juicy and cooked perfectly to medium rare.

The lamb shank with mashed potato and steamed veggies was also really delicious. The shank itself was large and the tender meat fell off the bone. The vegetables still had some crunch (which we love) and the sauce was a rich gravy which suited the dish perfectly. It would have been great if there was more sauce though!

We would have loved to have seen some desserts on the menu to finish off a great meal, but after the huge portions served to us, we probably wouldn't have had room anyway!
