Tamar Island Wetlands Walk

Tamar Island Wetlands Walk

PUFF-O-METRE

OVERVIEW

This is a lovely scenic walk just out of Launceston CBD. It's technically free however they do ask for donations if you're comfortable with that. There is parking for 20+ vehicles including a section that allows for buses to park.

500m into the walk is the information centre. This has bathrooms and shelter while you read up on the wildlife around the location. From there, it's a boardwalk to Tamar Island. 400m after the information centre, there is a fork off the boardwalk that leads to a bird watching hut. The boardwalk to Tamar Island spends most of the time over water however there are parts that have you crossing solid ground.

Once onto Tamar Island, the terrain changes to a gravel pathway that loops the Island. Along the loop are locations for sitting, bathrooms and BBQ facilities. There are plenty of places to relax under the shade of huge trees that are dotted around the Island.

It's an easy walk that caters for people who enjoy a nature walk or want to take the kids out for the day to burn off some of that energy.
