Lilydale Falls

 Lilydale Falls

PUFF-O-METRE

OVERVIEW

This location is one of those rare beauties that can cover all sorts of needs.... From a short day hike to a day trip to a full weekend campout. You can do it all and yet it's so close to civilization. As a reference point for finding this lovely location, you can start at Lilydale, stock up on your supplies and get a "wake me up" coffee. From the main street of Lilydale, head North East for a little over a KM. The turnoff is on the right hand side and is well sign posted.

There is room in the carpark for about 12 cars and even has limited room for bigger vehicles such as a mini bus or a trailer in tow. There are toilets available along with a playground for kids and a couple of BBQs. Two locations for shelter are close by, one houses the BBQs and the other has seating along with a semi-enclosed fire.

The grassland around the carpark makes for some lovely camping locations. There are fire pits dotted around the landscape and although they look like random locations, you'll soon note that they are placed close to some of the more desirable places to pitch a tent.

The hike to Lilydale Falls is an easy hike that starts off on a wide track however upon crossing the first bridge, the track narrows while increasing in elevation. While this sounds daunting, it's actually still a fairly easy track to negotiate. You'll soon meet a fork in the path: left takes you to the second waterfall and the upper view of the first waterfall and right takes you down a staircase and into a small pool caused by the first waterfall. Both falls, though small, are spectacular and the pools below them are deceptively deep allowing for a refreshing swim in either.
