Kates Berry Farm

 Kates Berry Farm

Kates Berry Farm is located in Swansea on Tassie's stunning East Coast, approximately 138km north-east of Hobart.

The café occupies a gorgeous position, with the berry farm in the foreground and views of Freycinet in the background. There is indoor and outdoor seating available - we recommend sitting outside to take in the view.

The menu offers a combination of sweet and savoury dishes, which are the perfect size for lunch or a morning / afternoon treat.

If you're in the mood for something savoury, a range of toasted sandwiches and crepes await you.

If you have your heart set on something sweet, you can indulge in scones, humbleberry pie, blueberry raspberry and apple pie, French crepes, pancakes or hot oozing chocolate cake.

Each dessert either highlights, or is complemented by, berries from the farm.

We feasted on crepes filled with scallops, prawns, fish, sweetcorn, vegetables, cream cheese and herbs. The crepes were light and airy and the filling was creamy and bursting with flavour and seafood.

We love scones, so of course we had to order some freshly baked scones with freshly whipped cream and jam. The scones were incredibly light and fluffy and were an absolute joy to eat. The scones come with your choice of jam, which is actually a difficult choice (first world problem we know), made so much easier by being able to taste all of the jams in the shop.

We also enjoyed a slice of warm humbleberry pie (made with raspberries, boysenberries and blackberries), served with vanilla bean ice cream. This pie was spectacular: it was generously filled with berries and the pastry was melt-in-your-mouth rich and short. The ice cream was so creamy and was the perfect accompaniment for a slab of berry pie.

While you're at Kates Berry Farm, make sure you visit the shop and browse the jams, chutneys, relishes, sauces, chocolates and dessert wine for sale, all produced by Kate.
