Buffet Breakfast

Everyone loves a good buffet breakfast and the Tasman Restaurant located on the ground floor of the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Hobart delivers just that...and for a very reasonable price.

As you walk into the servery area you are greeted by an impressive line up of all the usual suspects in breakfast cereal. Personally I always bypass this area as I don't want to fill up on chaff (unless I want to spoil myself with some Coco Pops).

Past the cereal is a juice bar where you can either pour yourself a glass of ready-made juice (five to choose from) or you can make your own freshly-made juice in the juicing machine.

There is an array of delicious cold foods to indulge in, ranging from mini danishes, croissants, muffins and other pastries, to sliced fresh fruit, yoghurts, cheeses, cold meats and smoked salmon, but it's the hot food area that I always find myself drawn towards.

Beneath the silver and glass cloches in the hot food station lie pancakes, homemade baked beans, chicken and chive sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, homemade hash browns, bacon (a welcome combination of crispy and chewy rashers), scrambled eggs and eggs holondaise. There's also an egg chef who will happily cook eggs and omlettes to order while you select your favourite bread (so many different varieties to choose from) and wait for it to turn the perfect shade of golden brown in the toaster.

There's plenty of butter, jam, honey, Vegemite, whipped cream, maple syrup and berry compote to adorn your food with and you can wash it all down with your own pot of tea or plunger coffee (or you can pay extra if you want a fancier coffee or hot chocolate).

If you're holidaying at the Grand Chancellor, or a local after a hearty breakfast, be sure to put this buffet breakfast on your list!
