Fern Tree Tavern is a cosy, alpine pub located at the base of the ascent to Mt Wellington.

A popular spot for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts, it's not unusual to see exhausted diners donning hiking gear and a sunburn, fresh from a day of hiking on Mt Wellington. 

Although the interior of this pub is modest, this pub needs no embellishment - the large wood fireplace near the bar, smaller wood heater in the dining room and twinkling fairy lights create a welcoming and snug atmosphere that warms the soul. 


The outdoor area at the front of the pub creates a lovely area for diners to enjoy their meal while soaking up some Vitamin D or sit with their four-legged friends.

As you walk past the bar to take your seat in the dining room, your eyes are instantly drawn towards the impressive display of cakes and desserts. You can't help but decide what you're having for dessert before ordering your mains. 

The menu offers hearty, generously-portioned pub meals such as burgers, chicken parmigiana, pie of the day and roast of the day, as well as a variety of specials and mouthwatering appetisers.

Vegetarian, vegan and health conscious diners are also well catered for, with items such as spinach and chickpea falafel, pumpkin and haloumi burger and zucchini, feta and herb fritters on the menu.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meals so why don't you give it a go the next time your visiting the highest point in Hobart.

 Crescent Bay, Mount Brown and Remarkable Cave PUFF-O-METRE   THEN OVERVIEW This is a beautiful day walk that follows some rugged coast line, stunning views and ends at a gorgeous beach with huge dunes. It starts at a large carpark, but it needs to be as this area is a very popular location. The carpark has a lovely viewing platform for some of the coastal cliffs. It also has shelter and public toilets available. Before setting off towards Crescent Bay, it's worth the ten minute delay to head down the staircase to enjoy the view at the Remarkable Cave. It's a bit like a horizontal blowhole however it's far more open therefore you don't get the big burst of water upwards. With that done, it's time to head along the other track towards Crescent Bay. This track is a bit up and down however the elevation doesn't change more than 20m so at no stage does it feel overwhelming.
