Southport Lagoon - Camping

Southport Lagoon - Camping

Located at the end of the Southport Lagoon 4WD track is this comfortable, multiple campsite location. The campsites are all well marked out and all have fire pot facilities which you must use if you wish to have a fire there. The sizes vary between single tent and vehicle locations through to multi vehicles or multi tent locations, allowing solo campers to have a site to themselves or plenty of space for families / groups getting together.

At the entrance to the campsite is a helicopter pad for evacuation, this area must be kept clear. There is also a Parks notification on entrance that you can only stay for a maximum of 7 days. Two toilet facilities are spread out throughout the campsites, both of them have male and female toilets along with hand washing facilities. Although not cleaned often these sites are well maintained by Parks.

There is no firewood collection at these sites therefore you must bring your own wood in. Where you pitch your tents is grass in winter or mud if it's been heavily used, however in summer this greenery dies off and you're located on hard rock ground or hardened mud. 100m away from the campsites is the parking area for the natural (hand only) boat ramp and from there you have full access to the Southport Lagoon whether that be for use of a boat, kayaking, swimming or fishing. High tide to low tide is noticeable and therefore should be observed for water activities. However, the tide has no impact on the campsites and therefore doesn't impact sleeping locations. There is no drinking water available so you need to bring your own water in.
