Snug Falls

Snug Falls

PUFF-O-METRE

OVERVIEW
Snug Falls is one of Tassie's little hidden gems that's located only a short drive from the busy little coastal town of Snug. To get to the falls, you turn off at the school and follow a sealed road until you get to a fork in the road. At the fork, take the left-hand road and follow it up into the hills. After the fork, the road turns to gravel and at this point you'll need to be careful. The road is narrow, winding and often slippery in the wetter periods of the year. There are passing opportunities for oncoming traffic but only in designated areas, therefore it's wise to take it slowly and make sure the road is clear before going beyond a passing opportunity. There is a carpark 100m prior to the start of the track, this gives the opportunity of multiple cars in this location as well as an overflow carpark a further 20m up the road.

Once on the track, it is a downhill walk all the way to the falls. Two-thirds of the way along the trail is small shelter and gives you an opportunity to look down through the valley towards Snug thanks to a lovely cliff face. At the end of the track you are confronted with a beautiful flowing waterfall with an iconic large fallen down tree in the middle.

Depending on how much rainfall has occurred at the time, the waterfall can be a gentle trickle down the rockface or can be a raging torrent that will have you clambering for high ground upon arrival. There is a gorgeous, deep pool that the waterfall flows into at the base. This cascades through some colourful green foliage and continues on down the valley towards Snug. There are large boulders at the base of the waterfall that make the perfect location to sit yourself down for a snack and a bit of relaxation.

The track is a return trip of 2.9 km with it being downhill all the way to the waterfalls and an uphill return leg. The ground is uneven and quite damp/slippery even in the dryer periods thanks to a large cover of foliage, over most of the track, all year round.

This is one of those tracks that is often bypassed due to it's short length in nature but don't be discouraged, although a short track, it is well worth the visit!
